The Katikati Boating Club sailing programme is into its last few sessions. We have been spoilt to date with exceptionally good sailing conditions for both the learn to sail programme and the junior racing series. The learn to sail programme has been so successful that we have split the sessions with younger sailors in the morning and the older sailors in the afternoon. The Club is spoilt to have fantastic parents ensuring the rigging and wash down of yachts is well covered, a number of parents are also proficient in the coach boat. We have run a race series for the junior members who have shown sufficient skill from the learn to sail course. This is going from strength to strength with the latest session last Saturday seeing 5 sailors enjoying a 3 race programme. The sailors all sail the same course, although we have 4 different yacht types at any one time. Starling, Optimist, Micron and Vikings all get out on the course. The juniors involved are Brecon Cameron sailing a Starling, Leo Morley who started the series in an Optimist and has progressed into a Viking, Thies Harms sailing very consistently in an Optimist, Flynn Sunderland sailing a Viking, Mac Willacy sailing an Optimist and Josh Langley sailing first an Optimist and then progressing to a Micron. The hope is that we can include a senior series into the 2016/17 season, many of our parents are keen sailors and enjoy the sport as much as their children.
